About SM Lulla

Built on
experience.
Focused on
consistency.

SM Lulla began as a small leather garment workshop in Chennai. Nearly four decades later, eight facilities operate across the city to cover every stage from raw hide to finished garment.

Origin

A workshop that became
a full-chain manufacturer.

SM Lulla has been a manufacturing partner to global fashion brands since 1987 one of the first in Chennai to integrate leather processing and garment production under one system.

Today, eight facilities operate within close proximity, covering leather processing, pattern development, cutting, garment construction, finishing, and inspection.

How we operate

"We do not outsource.
We do not broker.
Every hide, every stitch."

SM Lulla has been a manufacturing partner to global fashion brands since 1987 one of the first in Chennai to integrate leather processing and garment production under one system.

Nothing is handed to a subcontractor. Nothing disappears from our control between your approval and your delivery.

The process

Nine stages.
Two phases.
One team.

Every hide that enters our facility follows the same path tanning, retanning, dyeing, finishing, and grading before a single panel is cut. Every garment that leaves follows the same standard pattern, cutting, construction, and piece-by-piece inspection before it ships.

No stage is skipped. No shortcut is taken at volume. The ninth garment in a run is held to the same standard as the first. 100% of hides individually graded. Only A-grade leather advances to cutting. Failures are returned for rectification not scrapped, not shipped.

What drives us

Consistency isn't
a promise.
It's a system.

Colour drift between sample and bulk, thickness variation across a run, and finish failures at QC are not abstract risks; they are the specific reasons brands change manufacturers.

Our answer is not a promise. It is a process. What is approved in the sample room is what arrives at the warehouse. Repeated, over seasons and years.

Working approach

Three things that
define how we work.

01

Consistency across batches

What is approved in sampling is delivered in bulk, with colour, thickness, and finish controlled at every stage.

02

Control over material and construction

Nothing subcontracted. Single accountability, start to finish.

03

Compliance as standard

LWG Gold, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, REACH, and ZDHC MRSL compliance are embedded in how the facility operates rather than being treated as just a badge.

In closing

"Make well.
Repeat accurately."

We have worked with brands across Europe, the USA, and Japan for extended periods. These are not transactional relationships, but working partnerships built on one simple principle: what we agree upon in the room is what arrives at the warehouse.
